Do Something That Scares You Everyday
As I get older, I notice that I tend to avoid doing things that push me out of my safe zone. It’s so easy to keep doing the same things we know will receive a positive response and not risk rejection for our ideas. Does that sound like you too?
When I started my new job, I made a promise to myself I would challenge the status quo even if it scared me or gave me anxiety.
I work at a 100-year-old insurance company headquartered in the Midwestern United States. You can’t get much more conservative than that!
But challenging the status quo is paying off, thank the Lord, and I recently got approval to move forward with an idea, which some might call crazy (and a few did).
I’ve created a resource to help employees handle stress using mindful meditation. This is a new and growing approach to the Organizational Change industry in which I’m a practitioner. And if you follow me here, you know that’s my jam!
I was so scared to propose this idea to my boss and project stakeholders! There were many times I almost didn’t move forward with it.
But I kept focusing on how cool it would be to introduce mindful meditation in a conservative corporate work environment.
Getting approval felt so effing awesome!
What’s one thing you’re scared to do? What’s the worst thing that could happen if you did it?
