Flow or Resistance

Flow or Resistance

Do you ever experience those lovely days when you’re in your “flow”? Everything is going great – you have a productive day at work, your brain is sharp and spewing clever ideas, and you’re excited about life and your future opportunities. At least that’s what my “flow” feels like. It’s an amazing feeling! Of course, your “flow” state may look very different than mine.

These last few days, I’ve not been feeling in my “flow.” I’ve been feeling in a state of straight up resistance. I guess it’s to be expected. I’ve been blessed with some big life changes in 2019, such as getting a new job, and now working on a big project for my side business. Life is busy and stressful.

When I feel like I’m in a state of resistance, I start in on the self-sabotaging thoughts like: Am I wasting my time? I can’t do this. No one cares what I think. And then everything I think about becomes a negative thought. It’s a hole very hard for me to pull myself out of.

What do I do when I’m feeling those intense feelings of resistance? First step is to journal what my thoughts are. But instead of writing down my negative thoughts, I write down the positive version of those thoughts. If I’m thinking “I can’t do this,” I write instead “I am a smart capable woman and I CAN DO THIS!” This is so I can retrain my brain’s neuro-pathways to be positive rather than negative.

Do you ever get into a resistance funk? What do you do to overcome it?
